Summer Reading Lists for Rising 2nd Grader

We are not taking a break from reading together this summer! We are going to continue both read alouds and independent reading, although we will alternate between the two from day-to-day. Here’s what we plan to read, although this may change as we find books we want to get at the library.

Read Alouds

Winnie the Pooh

Henry Huggins

Babe, The Gallant Pig

A Question of Yams

McElligot’s Pool

Amos and Boris

Here’s a Penny

The Emperor’s New Clothes

Cinderella

Several sports-themed picture books mixed in here and there

Independent Reading

Various Abeka readers we have laying around

Henry and Mudge series

A Fly Went By

Little Bear

The Story of Ping

Billy and Blaze series

Keep in mind, I have a 3-year-old listening along. She gets her own picture books, also, but she does like to sit in when both my son and I read. I tried to make choices that benefitted both my little sweeties. What are you reading with a rising 2nd grade kiddo?
